Financing

The ABWBS is financed by a annual contribution by the Federal Department of Culture. Furthermore it makes efforts to find additional financing on a supra-regional level.

In 2004, the ABWBS received a generous donation of the Schweizerische Gemeinnützige Gesellschaft (SGG) which is directed towards restocking and renewing the books inventory, the further education of numerous volunteer employees and the support of new members. This funding makes it possible to run a small secretary office to carry out the various tasks of the association in the service of the libraries.

The Association of Books without Borders Switzerland has received financial support for books in Arabic, Albanian, Tamil and Turkish from the Federal Office for Migration and the Göhner-Foundation for the project "Stories and nursery rhymes for small children: early language promotion with the aid of books and new media in mother tongue". Broader support for different projects has been given by the Foundation Corymbo, the Oertli-Foundation and the Migros Culture Percentage.

Awards

In January 2004, the Association Books without Borders Switzerland receives the "World Decade for Cultural Development" award by UNESCO.

In June 2010 the Culture Foundation Landis & Gyr in Zug presents the Association Books without Borders Switzerland with the renowned Zurlauben Award for language and book culture.
