The Association Books Without Borders Switzerland (ABWBS)
Presently, sixteen intercultural libraries are confederated in the Association of Books Without Borders Switzerland (ABWBS). ABWBS was founded in 1993 and sees itself as an umbrella organisation which cares for and fosters the exchange of information and opinions among its members and other interested persons and institutions. The website interbiblio.ch provides information on all libraries. Every three to four months, a newsletter is issued which can be subscribed to by interested persons and which informs on activities, new acquisitions and plans. The association conducts joint projects like conventions for further education for employees, reading trips of authors, traveling exhibitions and much more.
The ABWBS consults interested people, groups, institutions and communal libraries who want to found an intercultural library or an intercultural department, and provides initial aid when needed.
The ABWBS strives towards Public Relations work and lobbying for the concerns of all intercultural libraries.
In addition, the ABWBS represents its members in front of national public authorities and international events (e.g. book fairs).
